When a canopy of a tree is too dense or heavy it can cause many problems including blocking out light, it can create a windsail which can cause the tree to uproot in high winds. To help with this we select specific branches and remove them from the crown while still keeping a natural shape to the tree.
If you top or pollard a tree in this situation you can create a more dangerous tree we do not carry out these practises.
