The event commenced with an opening dance titled "Light of Life". Shi Yuchang delivered a speech, extending a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the experts and leaders attending the ceremony, conveying festive greetings and high respect to the nursing faculty who have long worked diligently on the front lines of teaching and research, and expressing deep expectations and festive congratulations to the nursing students. He affirmed the outstanding achievements made by the School of Nursing in recent years in areas such as professional construction and talent cultivation, and put forward three hopes for the students: First, to strengthen their convictions and practice their solemn vows with a sincere heart; second, to be down-to-earth and uphold common dreams with a dedicated heart; third, to be diligent in learning and meet opportunities and challenges with a resilient heart. He emphasized that nursing students should consciously keep pace with the times, forge a deep sense of national sentiment with their pure hearts, become guardians of people's health and their intimate caregivers, and contribute their youthful strength to the modernization of China.
To set exemplary models and promote the craftsman spirit, college leaders presented awards and recognized the teachers and students who won prizes in the 2025 Jiangsu Provincial Vocational College Skills Competition. The School of Nursing consistently adheres to the philosophy of "competitions guiding teaching, practical training honing skills", and has repeatedly achieved excellent results in national and provincial nursing skills competitions, which not only demonstrates the effectiveness of its professional construction but also cultivates students' craftsmanship of striving for excellence.
The capping ceremony is a "coming-of-age ceremony" for each nursing student embarking on their nursing path, also signifying the continuation of Nightingale's humanitarian spirit. With the soothing and sacred music, the capping ceremony commenced. Under the gaze of all teachers and students, senior nurses took the stage to place the nurse caps on the students, light their candles, and pass on the symbolic flame. Led by Zhou Ping, Secretary of the Second Party Branch of the School of Nursing, the teachers and students of the School of Nursing raised their right hands and solemnly took the oath. The resounding pledges echoed through the venue, demonstrating the firm commitment of all teachers and students to dedicate themselves to the nursing cause.
Sun Zhongwen, Party Branch Secretary and Dean of the School of Nursing, offered earnest advice to the students. He hoped that the students would hold fast to their ideals and beliefs, consolidate their professional theoretical knowledge, master exquisite nursing skills, shoulder the responsibilities entrusted by the times, and make new and greater contributions to building a Healthy China and a Healthy Jiangsu.
In the prime of their youth, the students vowed to live up to their youthful years with action and understanding. Song Quanli, a student from Class 16, Grade 24, Nursing Program, spoke as the student representative: "Receiving this nurse cap, we are inheriting not only a professional tradition but also the solemn duty to protect life." This statement conveyed the sense of responsibility shared by all nursing students.
Subsequently, students from the School of Nursing presented a wonderful opera performance titled "Growth" and a skills demonstration on cardiopulmonary resuscitation. At the end of the ceremony, the students sang the medical-themed version of the song "Legend". The passionate singing inspired every nursing student to forge ahead courageously.
White Uniforms and Nurse Caps Pass the Torch on; Shouldering Responsibility and Forging Youth. This "Professional Coming-of-Age" Capping Ceremony, serving as a unique "Major Ideological and Political Course", was both a solemn moment to inherit professional faith and a key vehicle for cultivating nursing students' sense of national sentiment. For years, the School of Nursing has consistently adhered to the educational philosophy of "Benevolence and Skill, Emphasizing Both Morality and Competence", striving to cultivate nursing talents with humanistic care and exquisite skills. Through the capping ceremony, the students pledged to inherit, carry forward, and promote the Nightingale spirit, fulfilling the noble mission of healing the wounded and rescuing the dying with practical actions. Moving forward, the School of Nursing will continue to deepen education and teaching reforms, guided by the "Greater Health" concept, to cultivate high-quality, highly-skilled nursing talents, contributing to the provincial "Double High" college construction and the successful conclusion of the "14th Five-Year Plan", thereby offering wisdom and strength to advance the building of a Healthy China and the development of vocational education.
