The English challenge competition in the national competition consisted of three parts: reading aloud, retelling, and answering questions. The scores were determined by a combination of an intelligent voice system and expert judges, based on the contestants' pronunciation, intonation, accuracy, and completeness. The competition tested the participants' English grammar, vocabulary, and sentence-structure skills, as well as their independent thinking and analytical abilities. It also challenged their knowledge base and on-the-spot response skills.
